Raleigh–Durham International Airport (RDU) is committed to a 100% smoke-free indoor environment, in line with North Carolina’s smoke-free public spaces policy. Smoking, vaping, and the use of e-cigarettes are strictly prohibited inside both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, including concourses, restrooms, and dining areas.

Outdoor Smoking Areas – Pre-Security Access Only:
Travelers who wish to smoke must use designated outdoor smoking zones, located outside the terminals before entering security. These areas are placed at a safe distance from entrances and ventilation points, as required by state regulations.
- Terminal 1 & Terminal 2: Smoking areas are located near the curbside drop-off and pick-up zones. Look for signs and provided ashtrays to ensure proper disposal.
RDU does not provide any indoor or post-security smoking lounges.
Passengers exiting to smoke will need to undergo TSA screening again to return to the gate areas.
Smoking outside of designated zones may result in penalties or removal from airport property.
RDU thanks all travelers for respecting its smoke-free policy and contributing to a healthier airport environment for everyone
