Smoking at San Jose Airport (SJC)

Airport (SJC) enforces a strict smoke-free policy throughout all indoor spaces, including terminals, restrooms, dining areas, and boarding gates. The use of cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and vaping devices is prohibited inside in accordance with California’s clean air regulations.

Outdoor Smoking Areas – Pre-Security Only:

Travelers may smoke only in designated outdoor zones located outside Terminals A and B, before entering the security checkpoint. These smoking areas are clearly marked and positioned at least 20 feet away from entrances and ventilation systems, ensuring compliance with state law.

  • Terminal A: Smoking area is near the curbside departures level, with signage and ashtrays provided.
  • Terminal B: Outdoor zone is located near the ground transportation area, also marked for visibility and convenience.

What to Remember:

SJC does not provide indoor or post-security smoking lounges.

Passengers who exit to smoke must go through TSA screening again to re-enter the secure zone.

Smoking in non-designated areas may lead to fines or other penalties.

San Jose International thanks travelers for respecting its smoke-free policy and helping maintain a clean, welcoming airport environment.
