Eppley Airfield (OMA), Nebraska’s largest airport located three miles northeast of downtown Omaha, enforces a strict no-smoking policy inside its terminal buildings to comply with federal and local regulations. As of April 2025, smoking is prohibited indoors, but the airport provides designated outdoor smoking areas for passengers who need to smoke or vape before entering the terminal or during their travel.

Where to Find Smoking Areas at OMA:

South Terminal (Concourse A): Exit the terminal near Doors 2 or 4 on the lower level. A designated smoking area is located to the left of the sidewalk, in a grassy area equipped with ashtrays and signage, approximately 50 feet from the entrance to ensure a smoke-free zone near doors. Note: Starting January 6, 2025, the lower level between Doors 2 and 4 may be closed due to construction, so check the airport’s website for updates.

North Terminal (Concourse B): After exiting near the baggage claim or ticketing areas, look for the marked smoking zone outside, positioned away from main entrances. This area includes waste receptacles for cigarette butts.

Parking Lots and Garages: Smoking is permitted in open-air parking areas, such as the South or North parking lots, but passengers are encouraged to use the designated zones near the terminal to maintain cleanliness and adhere to airport guidelines.

Key Information for Travelers:

Vaping and E-Cigarettes: Electronic cigarettes and vaping devices are subject to the same restrictions as traditional smoking and are only allowed in the designated outdoor smoking areas. Indoor vaping is not permitted.

Re-Entry Considerations: If you leave the secure area to smoke, you must pass through TSA screening again to re-enter the terminal. Allow extra time, particularly during peak travel periods or amidst ongoing construction, which may affect terminal access.

Cleanliness and Compliance: Eppley Airfield emphasizes environmental responsibility. Use the provided ashtrays to dispose of cigarette butts to keep the airport grounds clean and avoid penalties for littering.
