Indoor Smoking Ban:
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) enforces a complete no-smoking policy indoors across all nine terminals (1–8 and Tom Bradley International Terminal, TBIT), including concourses, gates, restaurants, lounges, and restrooms, per California’s Smoke-Free Workplace Act. This covers cigarettes, e-cigarettes, vaping devices, and all tobacco products.
Designated Outdoor Smoking Zones:
Smoking is permitted only in designated outdoor areas located pre-security, at least 20 feet from entrances:

- Terminal 1: Curbside on Arrivals Level (Level 1) near Gate 9.
- Terminal 2: Curbside on Departures Level (Level 2).
- Terminal 5: Curbside on Arrivals Level (Level 1).
- Terminal 6: Curbside on Departures Level (Level 2).
- Terminal 7: Curbside on Arrivals Level (Level 1).
TBIT: Curbside on Departures Level (Level 3) and Arrivals Level (Level 1).
These areas are marked with signs and equipped with ashtrays.
Airside Smoking Area (TBIT): A unique outdoor smoking patio is available post-security in the Tom Bradley International Terminal, near the food court by Gates 130–146. Access it past KFC and Umami Burger, following signs to the left near the children’s play area. This patio, on the mezzanine level, offers seating, WiFi, and plane-spotting views, but it’s a 15-minute walk from Terminals 5–8.
