If you’re passing through Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and looking for a place to smoke, it’s important to know that all indoor areas of the airport are 100% smoke-free. This includes terminals, dining spots, lounges, and even bars. Since 2020, a city ordinance has banned both traditional smoking and vaping devices inside the facility.
That said, ATL still provides outdoor smoking spaces for travelers — but they are only available outside the terminals, before security screening. You’ll find them in the following locations:
? Domestic Terminal North
Lower Level:
• Near Door LN1
• Near Door LN2
Main Level:
• Close to Door N1
• Between Doors N3 and N4
? Domestic Terminal South
Lower Level:
• Near Door LS1
• Near Door LS2
Main Level:
• Between Doors S1 and S2
• Between Doors S4 and S5
• Near Door S6
? International Terminal
Departures (Upper Level):
• Doors D1 and D3
Arrivals (Lower Level):
• Doors A1 and A3
There are no smoking zones past the TSA checkpoints, so if you’ve already gone through security, you’ll need to exit the terminal and go through the screening process again if you wish to smoke. For this reason, it’s a smart idea to take a smoke break before heading through security, especially if you’re facing a long wait or layover.
For those who may find it inconvenient, consider preparing nicotine alternatives like patches or gum ahead of your trip.
Respecting ATL’s smoking policy ensures a better experience for everyone traveling through one of the world’s busiest airports.
