Smoking at San Diego International Airport (SAN)

Enforces a 100% smoke-free policy indoors, including all terminals, restrooms, gates, restaurants, and lounges. Smoking, vaping, and e-cigarette use are strictly prohibited inside any part of the airport facility.

Designated Outdoor Smoking Areas – Pre-Security Only:

• Smoking is allowed only in specific outdoor areas located outside the terminals, before TSA security checkpoints. These zones are marked with signage and positioned at least 20 feet away from doors and air vents, following California’s smoke-free regulations.
• Terminal 1 & Terminal 2: Outdoor smoking areas are available on the curbside, near ground transportation and baggage claim zones. Ashtrays are provided.

SAN has no indoor smoking lounges or post-security smoking areas.

If you step outside to smoke, you’ll need to go through TSA screening again, so plan extra time.

Violating smoking rules may lead to fines or removal from airport property.
