Largest and busiest airport, operates with a strict no-smoking policy indoors. This includes all terminals, concourses, restrooms, restaurants, and gate areas. Cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and vaping devices are all prohibited inside the terminal buildings, as mandated by the Smoke-Free Arizona Act.

Smoking Policy at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport (PHX)

Where Smoking Is Allowed:

Travelers who wish to smoke may do so only in outdoor, pre-security smoking zones, which are clearly identified with signage and located a safe distance from entrances and ventilation systems — at least 20 feet away, in line with state regulations.

  • Terminal 3:

Smoking areas are located near both the north and south ends of the terminal, just outside the main entrances.

  • Terminal 4:

Designated spots can be found on both Level 1 (Baggage Claim) and Level 2 (Ticketing). These zones are easily accessible before passing through security.

No indoor or airside smoking lounges are available at PHX.

If you exit the terminal to smoke, you’ll need to clear TSA screening again before re-entering the secure zone—allow additional time, especially during busy travel hours.

Using non-designated areas for smoking may result in fines or penalties under local and airport regulations.

Phoenix Sky Harbor is dedicated to providing a clean, healthy, and comfortable environment for all passengers. Please use only the approved smoking areas and dispose of cigarette waste properly.
