Airport enforces a strict no-smoking policy indoors across all terminals (1, 2, 3, and International), including gates, concourses, dining areas, restrooms, and lounges, per California’s Smoke-Free Workplace Act. This covers cigarettes, e-cigarettes, vaping devices, and all tobacco products.
Outdoor Smoking Zones: Smoking is allowed only in designated outdoor areas, located pre-security at least 25 feet from entrances:
- Terminal 1: Curbside on Departures/Ticketing Level (Level 2) and Arrivals/Baggage Claim Level (Level 1), near designated signs.
- Terminal 2: Curbside on Departures/Ticketing Level (Level 2) at both ends.
- Terminal 3: Curbside on Departures/Ticketing Level (Level 2) and Arrivals/Baggage Claim Level (Level 1).
International Terminal: Curbside on Departures/Ticketing Level (Level 3) near Doors 1 and 16, and Arrivals Level (Level 1) near Doors 1 and 2.
These areas are marked with signage and equipped with ashtrays.
No Airside or Indoor Facilities: SFO has no indoor smoking lounges or post-security smoking areas. All airline lounges (e.g., United Club, American Admirals Club) are smoke-free.
